L. Cornelius Lentulus and C. Claudius Marcellus, 49 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.75 g, 12 h), military mint moving with Pompey in the East. Triskeles, with winged head of Medusa facing at center and grain ears between legs. Rev. LENT - MAR / COS Jupiter standing front, head to right, holding thunderbolt in his right hand and eagle in his left. Babelon (Cornelia) 64 and (Claudia) 9. Crawford 445/1b. CRI 4 var. (harpa on reverse). RBW 1562. Sydenham 1029a. An unusually attractive example with beautiful iridescent toning and a wonderful rendering of the triskeles. Thin flan cracks and the reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
